About

Maxson Designs is owned and operated by Susan Maxson. It is located in the very small mountain community of Allenspark, Colorado, just 15 miles south of Estes Park, Colorado. Susan has been designing and creating unique pieces of furniture, kitchen cabinets, and smaller items in her shop at 235 Main Street in Allenspark for 37 years.

Since her college days at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where she graduated with her BS in Applied Art/Craft Design, she has learned to use the natural qualities of the wood to create beautiful and functional pieces of art. Handcrafted furnishings are created using professional joinery and expert construction techniques along with modern technology. Most of her work is built from woods such as walnut, cherry, mahogany, maple, oak, and hickory as well as padauk, purpleheart, and other exotic woods which are used as inlays and decorative art forms. Susan captures the beauty of the color, grain, and texture of fine domestic and exotic hardwoods in creating traditional and contemporary designs.

She uses the highest quality materials, accenting the beauty, natural characteristics and strength of the wood. Collaboration with clients is one of Susan’s strengths. She always keeps the integrity of the design in harmony with the function. Most of her clients are local or live along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, but many of her smaller items have been shipped all over the world.

In addition to Susan’s custom furniture pieces, she has also been commissioned to build large scale commercial and residential projects. Her work can be seen locally at any of the Rocky Mountain National Park Visitor Centers, Eagle Rock School, Taharra Mountain Lodge, Highlands Presbyterian Camp, the Estes Park Public Library, several US Forest Service buildings, and the Copeland Institute.

Know when you purchase a product from Maxson Designs you are getting a fine piece of furniture that will last for generations.
